The IC693ALG221 is a 4-channel analog input module integrated into the GE Fanuc Series 90-30 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) system. Tailored to collect current signals from industrial field devices and instruments, it supports two input ranges: 0–20 mA and 4–20 mA. At its core, the module is equipped with an internal Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), which transforms raw analog signals into digital data that the PLC can process and utilize for user-programmed control logic.

Boasting a 12-bit input resolution, the IC693ALG221 delivers precise signal detection: for the 4–20 mA range, the resolution equates to 4 µA per least significant bit (1 LSB = 4 µA), while for the 0–20 mA range, the resolution is 5 µA per LSB. It achieves an absolute accuracy of 0.1% of full scale plus 0.1% of the reading, with a common mode voltage tolerance of 200V. Additional performance specifications include linearity of less than 1 LSB and an input filter response of 325 Hz, ensuring stable and reliable signal acquisition even in noisy industrial environments.

The IC693ALG221 comes factory-configured for the 4–20 mA input range by default. For signals in this range, the module internally converts the current values into a unitless digital scale of 0–32000, which is stored in the input register: 4 mA corresponds to a register value of 0, and 20 mA maps to 32000, with intermediate values scaled proportionally based on the module’s resolution. This digital conversion mechanism applies identically to the 0–20 mA input range. To switch between the two signal types, users can perform hardware configuration by shorting specific terminals on the module’s removable terminal block. Two range-select jumpers are provided for this purpose: one for channels 1 and 2, and another for channels 3 and 4.

Designed for flexible system integration, the IC693ALG221 4-Channel Analog Current Input Module can be installed in nearly any I/O rack within a PLC system. Its operating voltage is supplied via a regulator or inverter connected to the PLC’s power source. For optimal signal integrity, field wiring should use shielded, twisted-pair cables to minimize electromagnetic noise and capacitive loading effects. The module draws its primary power from the PLC’s isolated 24V DC supply, and features both electrical and optical isolation between field wiring and the PLC backplane—this dual isolation design effectively suppresses externally induced noise interference.
